Use Proper Lifting and Bending Techniques
Gardening can be hard on your back. It often involves a lot of bending down, and sometimes some heavy lifting too. Before you pick up that heavy bag of soil or plant pot, make sure you’re lifting correctly. You should be bending your knees and keeping your back straight if you want to avoid doing damage to your back or anywhere else. Be careful with bending over too. You don’t want to be stooped over all day – that’s a fast route to an aching neck and back. Try to get down lower if you can, rather than bending over.
Protect Your Knees

Don’t forget to dress properly for getting out in the garden. Protective gloves can be useful for a lot of jobs, especially when dealing with anything spikey or prickly. It’s also a good idea to wear long sleeves to protect your arms, not just from plants but from the sun too. If the sun is out, don’t forget a hat if you’re not protected by any shade. Of course, it’s also smart to put sunscreen on if you’re going to be out in the sun.
