As any pet owner knows, the animals people tend to keep are far from simple. Cats, dogs, birds, and even fish all have their own ways of handling emotions, giving humans a very tough time of understanding what they need. In the past, this miscommunication has lead to a lot of people underestimating the power of their pet’s mind, and treating them incorrectly as a result. Of course, it’s unlikely that your dog is a genius. But, likewise, it’s also unlikely that they’re feeling nothing at all.
Like humans, most animals around the world will communicate with each other through the sound, and this gives your pet a great way to tell you what they want. Using squeeks, barks, and other noises, it can be confusing to try and decipher their needs with what you have. Over time, though, you will slowly get a better understanding of what each sound means, making it much easier to satisfy your furry friend without trial and error. Of course, you can also look up the common sounds your pet may make.
Of course, as people find it so hard to communicate through noise with their pets, body language can be a little more powerful when you’re trying to understand them. Cats, for example, can often appear to be very happy, even if they are upset. Flinching, running away, and walking with a tail between the legs are all signs that a feline is unhappy. To figure this out for your own animal, you should talk to your vet and do some research to find the common body language they might use.
Along with the way they carry themselves, an animal’s behaviour can also be very telling of their mood, too. A dog which is violent, for example, will usually be stuck in a place which makes them feel on edge. Using their expected behaviour as a guide, you can figure out if something might be bothering your pets. Of course, though, you will have to think about the individual, too, as they won’t want to have loads of toys.
Punishing A Pet:
Finally, as the last thing to think about the ways that you punish your pets. When you’re trying to stop that dog or cat from ruining the furniture, using violence or scaring them will usually be unsuccessful. Instead, you should aim to make the areas of concern stronger, limiting the damage which can be done, while also making it unpleasant for them to do their naughty deeds. This will take away their desire to cause destruction, rather than making them fear you.
Hopefully, this post will inspire you to start putting more time into the relationship you have with your pets. A lot of people struggle with this area. Keeping an animal is much like having a child which can’t talk to you, and it will come with a similar group of challenges. To help you with this, there are loads of resources out there which can teach you about your pets and their needs.
