I feel when you picture your own house and see so many insta-inspiration pics of what you’re going to create, you have the idea in your mind that you will move in and instantly do the whole place up to perfection as you wished. The reality is it takes a long time to create your dream home and there is always something else to do or pay for that month and the decor and organising of your home seems to get pushed back, or at least in my case it has. Organising my home and having everything where and how I want it is definitely a benefit of living alone. No matter the size of your home any storage tips can always come in handy to make sure you have the most space for all of your things.
The kitchen is the place in my house that just has to be clean and tidy at all times. I cannot stand if there is anything out of place and have to know exactly where everything is.. Our first trip to IKEA I remember buying so many little jars to fill with spices to fill up the cupboards with. This is so much easier while you’re cooking, especially if you have them all labelled. This will save time and prevent you from hunting through all of the packets you have bought in the store and everything will be easily visible and easy to find. This is also a benefit if someone is helping you to cook, you can be shouting out the orders of what you need them to pass you and no complaints will come your way as your organised/ tidy cupboards with pretty little labels will make everything run smoothly. Even though any guests coming to your house probably won’t be opening your kitchen cupboards, if by any chance someone was, then at least even the insides of your cabinets will look good. No mismatch tins and packets in sight!
When I lived at home with my Mam I always wanted a dressing room, or at least a space where I can have everything organised and get ready. With the house I bought that was instantly the vision with the smallest bedroom. I do have a day bed in that room which pulls out into a double just in case of guests but I mainly use this as a dressing room. I think a dressing table with plenty drawers is perfect as then you won’t need much more furniture in the room so if the room you’re using isn’t huge then this is a good idea. There are so many different things you can use as makeup/toiletry storage which look great for inside your drawers or on top of your dressing table. On the top of my dressing table I like to have the things I use most often on show, in little glass and copper jars. I have too much makeup to have that on show so that stays hidden away in the drawers. I do have a set of makeup brushes that I bought just to be on show as they were a cute colour but they stay on top of the table in pretty open boxes and the ugly ones that I use are far away from sight.
