It has been a few years since the phenomenon that is the capsule wardrobe was covered in every fashion magazine and on every fashion blog. However, there are still fashion gurus that stand by the quite daunting idea. If you are someone who is known to splurge and can barely fit your many clothes into the storage available to you, you may be thinking of a clear out. The idea behind a capsule wardrobe is to have 50 clothing items or less (to cover all seasons, not just summer) that you can adapt to fit with plenty of different looks. The benefits? There are actually quite a few, as detailed below.
Good For Saving
Many of you may have set yourselves a few New Year’s resolutions, and included in your goals may be the resolution to save more money over the course of the year. Well, having a limited wardrobe will encourage you to make well thought out and intentional purchases rather than buying a new dress and heels every weekend for your girls night out. Limiting yourself to a 50 items or less wardrobe will ensure you buy versatile pieces that can be used across a number of outfits without looking like the fashion faux pas of repetition. It can seem like you won’t be able to create new looks however never underestimate the power of accessorizing. Switching out your bag, or investing in some jewellery from Make Me Beautiful or a similar site can open up your outfit options even more, and help you to stay in line with the season trends.
Less Materialistic Lifestyle
Applying this minimalist idea in one section of your life can actually help it to leak into other areas. You may find you start to question your purchases regularly in other areas without even making a conscious effort to do so – helping the money to stay in your pocket rather than being wasted on something else you don’t need. You may find a good clear out is the inspiration you need to do a full house spring clean, and tick off those jobs that are always pushed to the bottom of your to-do list. You may find you are able to downsize in other areas of your life too, helping your home to feel less cluttered and stay tidy for longer.
Less Storage Needed
If you are a student, living in your first property, or just do not have a lot of storage available to you, this technique will mean you can significantly reduce your need for space. If you are already feeling cramped where you are living it may be that you just have too much going on. Reducing your wardrobe size, or getting rid of a chest of drawers that is unneeded will help your space to fill a lot bigger and more accommodating to your needs.
